S’mores Brownies in Jars
This s’mores inspired dessert, S’mores Brownies in Jars, was a snap to prepare. A layer of graham cracker crust was topped with some fudgy brownie dough and baked in cute little mason jars.
Marshmallows filled the rest of the jars and were broiled to give that characteristic roasted s’mores look. You can also make these using a boxed brownie mix, which will most likely fill more than 4 jars.
S’mores Desserts
We spent many summer vacations with my in-laws up in Wisconsin. Boating, fishing, Packer worshiping were all part of our adventures up north. Come sundown, we’d get a roaring campfire going and spend the last minutes of twilight searching for the perfect marshmallow roasting sticks.
Making s’mores by squeezing a charred and gooey marshmallow and a piece of milk chocolate between two graham crackers was part of our nightly routine. But even better than traditional campfire s’mores are s’mores desserts like these layered brownies.
Is It Safe to Bake in Mason Jars?
Mason jars are made for canning, so they can tolerate temperatures. Buy a good quality canning jar to ensure they stand up to baking.
How to Store Mason Jar Desserts
Thankfully, these desserts in jars are self-sealing, so it’s easy to store the leftovers. Just screw on the caps and store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or the freezer for up to 3 months. Bring to room temperature then gently warm if desired to soften the marshmallows.
What is Jarcuterie?
A new fad with the global pandemic in full swing is to serve appetizers in jars, like cheese sticks, crackers, and cured meat. It’s much safer than hovering around a cheeseboard with many hands reaching in to grab a nibble. Other ideas include veggie sticks and dip, cheese puffs, or anything on skewers! Jarcuterie is a term that comes from blending charcuterie, AKA a cheeseboard, with jars.

I would make strawberry pound cake first.
Lovely post! Sorry for your loss. S’mores are such a fun thing to make and the quintessential camping dessert. I’ve never made them at home; this might just get me to try it. Thanks for taking part in this event. I made some steamed rice cakes in banana leaves in honor of my grandmother. It was great to nibble on suman and tell my kids about their great-grandmother.
I’m so sorry to read about your father-in-law my friend, thank you for sharing his stories.
You are making a lovely tribute.
Hugs

Glad to be part of this event with you! I love this recipe, I am a sucker for s’mores and brownies -a and the jars are just too cute!
It’s a bittersweet day for those of us who had wonderful fathers (or fathers in law) who are no longer with us. Your brownies in a jar are a lovely way to pay homage to a well-loved man.
Where to begin!! Thank you for this gorgeous giveaway. I’m so sorry about your father-in-law 🙁 I love this idea of having jar desserts.
P.S. I would probably try out the ice cream attachment first if I won. I don’t have an ice cream maker or a mixer.
Okay first of all I love to you pieces. That’s just a fact.
And you know how sorry I am about your father in law. Cancer is just a horrible disease and takes way too many loved ones way too early. So you know my heart is with you and your family through this. Always.
Third I adore this recipe so much. I love things in jars as you know this really pulls at my heart strings on every level.
Thank you for joining us and for your constant friendship. See you in November, unless I get a ticket to IFBC and a sponsor, then it’s party time in September. xx
For all of us both Father’s and Mother’s Day eventually become bittersweet. I remember you writing about your father-in-law, and this day certainly won’t have the joy for you that it had in past years. But thank goodness we all have memories of the good times, and it’s fun to dwell on those. Great recipe and such a great idea to focus on cancer awareness. Great post – thanks.
It’s so sweet how you made these s’mores brownies in jars as a memory for the fun you’ve had with your in laws (plus they look completely delectable)
Liz,
I was so carried away with ‘dad’ memories that I forgot to answer your first giveaway question: I would make a wonderful Boston Cream Pie with this new K.A. stand up mixer. In fact, I think I’ll make one today because it was my father’s favorite cake!

Liz,
This is a sad Father’s Day for both of our families with your father-in-law and my dad. It feels so strange and I feel as if my dad is with me everywhere today on this acreage that he said felt like where he grew up in the hillside area of the Des Moines river. I didn’t want to write a post today, but maybe visiting your blog today, is God’s way of saying, ‘you need to write too’. I love these smore brownies and really anything gooey! Thank you for this lovely cause that the three of you are raising awareness for cancer. And thank you for the giveaway opportunity.
