Today marks the one year anniversary of Sunday Suppers! I joined this group at the end of February 2012, so I’ve been with this gang of dedicated bloggers, who share the mission of bringing back the family dinner, for almost 11 months. To honor our fellow bloggers, we are each making a dish that was featured by another member on an earlier Sunday Supper post . Renee, of Magnolia Days, was one of our seven original members…and she’s always on top of it all: helping, sharing our posts and cooking up delicious foods within our themes. And besides being an excellent cook, she’s an extremely gifted photographer…her gorgeous, vibrant floral shots are magazine worthy. I knew I’d select a dessert (duh), most likely chocolate (yeah, baby), and one that my family wouldn’t complain about (my delicious liver pate did not seem to wow them). I briefly checked a couple of my favorite participants’ blogs before heading over to Magnolia Days. As soon as I saw Ina’s Brownie Tart, I knew my search was over. I have about a bazillion brownie recipes on my blog, but I had yet to make this simple brownie tart.
It’s as easy as pie, err, tart…chocolate chips were melted with butter and added to the other brownie ingredients. I skipped the nuts, and accidentally skipped the addition of another cup of chocolate chips that were to be included in the batter before baking….but do not fear, these were still wonderful. A quick chocolate sauce of more chips, cream and vanilla can be served over a scoop of vanilla ice cream right on top of a nice wedge of this decadent tart. I took this tart, some vanilla ice cream and the chocolate sauce to some friends who invited us to dinner. We had a wonderful dinner and they were all crazy for this dessert. In fact, the hostess went back for seconds! This is a must try recipe for all you chocoholics!
Thanks, Renee, for being such an important part of the Sunday Supper team…and for inspiring me week after week. Scroll down to see all the incredible dishes shared by the Sunday Supper crew today!
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter, sliced into tablespoons
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 3 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Sauce:
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- For the tart:
- In microwave, melt the chocolate chips and butter, stopping and stirring at 30 second increments till melted and smooth. Set aside to cool.
- Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour 9 inch tart pan with removable bottom (I used Baker's Joy spray). Set aside.
- Beat eggs, sugar, coffee and vanilla with a mixer about 3 minutes, till lighter in color and well blended. Add cooled chocolate and mix till combined. Add flour, baking powder and salt and stir till just combined. Scrape batter into prepared pan and smooth top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, till center is puffed. The top will crack. Cool completely then remove from pan to serving plate. Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or ice cream, and chocolate sauce.
- To make chocolate sauce, melt cream and chocolate chips together in microwave, stopping and stirring at 30 second increments till melted and smooth. Add vanilla. Let cool at room temperature till thickens slightly.

To. die. for.
This can totally work as breakfast food, right?
What a deliciously rich looking pie! And you had to add that scoop of chocolate syrup covered ice cream, didn’t you? Nice touch! After all, it is a BIRTHDAY celebration.
You’re right, Liz! This is a must-try. As always, you make even a chocolate brownie elegant by turning it into a tart =) Thank you again for another keeper recipe.
What a yummy tart! Leave it to you to pick a yummy chocolaty decadent tart!
I was about to go and make some brownies but then my husband messed up some wires in the kitchen and now I am waiting for them to fix that so that I can plugin my oven. Maybe it was a divine intervention so that I would get the time to check out your recipe and decide to make them.
My husband would cry with happiness if I served that to him for dessert. It’s his favorite and one he orders anytime we go out. I can just imagine how rich the brownie tart tasted.
Congrats on one year with Sunday Suppers.
A beatuiful tart filled with everything I love! WOOT! HAPPY SUNDAY!
Ugh… That would be perfect study food… Now I’m sad and will resort to whatever is left in the pantry.
No one can resist that brownie tart ! With a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce , it’s just simply divine
I am so drooling over this brownie tart! Looks amazing!! The ice ream and syrup on top is so perfect!!
Oh Liz! You are so sweet. Your kind words have made my day! I’m so glad you and your family and friends enjoyed the tart. It is truly for chocoholics.
Wow Lizzy! I do not know how anyone can resist this?!!
OH WOW, does that look so amazing!!! Tummy is growling for a piece!!
This looks fabulous and so easy! I need a chocolatey dessert to serve a group of ladies this week and I think I’ve just found it, thanks Lizzy!
I have been waiting for this one since you posted what you were making. I just want to dive right in, looks incredible!
Yum. yum. yum. There’s nothing better than this kind of dessert.
All I can say Lizzy, YUM, YUM, YUM! This looks amazing! I’m imagining it warm with that ice cream melting just a bit …………
Lovely! But I also need two scoops of ice cream!
I knew we could count on you to make the most decadent dessert Liz! If you ever want to go ridiculously OTT add a layer of dulce de leche and another of meringue on top, like we do here. It´s one of the most popular desserts. I would choose this one with ice cream any time, amazing! Happy Sunday!
Congrats Liz, time does fly when you’re having fun. What an amazing tart, it reminds me of Charles’ (Five Euro Food) wonderful Kaddkaka such a delightful tart.

Brownies must have ice cream! This looks delicious.
How funny. I came over for the spinach lasagne, Lizzy, but there’s obviously a crossed wire – lucky for me! This gorgeous tart sounds even nicer than your lasagne.
Yum! This looks so scrummy

Awwwww yeah baby! Liz, this looks amazeballs. The entire tart is one serving, right?
I love me a good, easy, fudgy brownie recipe and this one is a clear winner. Pass me a spoon and a tub of ice cream because dinner is served!
As I told Renee when she made, I’ve made this before and it is incredible! You topping it with ice cream, yeah you make it even more irresistible than it already is!
Liz, your tart is perfect. It looks absolutely wonderful. I wouldn’t mind digging in to a piece of that. Yum!
Oh Lizzy, this is so tempting, especially the ice-cream on top. Amazing!
Liz, I always want to dessert at your house
Chocolate tart with ice cream and chocolate sauce? Oh, my it looks simply amazing!!!
Looks awesome, but is that the correct amount of baking powder?
Am making this yummy pie now but just noticed that you have listed 1/4 CUP of baking powder. Please tell me this is a typo! I’m only using 1/4 t of baking powder and will find out soon enough if that works.
Oops! Thanks for finding my error…you were exactly right! Hope you enjoyed!
This looks delicious! I love brownies and could see me making this for my students at school.
Looks awesome, I intend to try it tonight.
P.S. I’m thinking that 1/4 cup baking powder is meant to be 1/4 teaspoon?
Ahhh, my page refreshed and now I see you already answered this. Sorry!
Thanks for sharing with the Clever Chicks Blog Hop this week; I hope you’ll join us again!
