Beef Tenderloin Filets
This was our entree for Nick’s 18th birthday…for about the 17th year in a row, he requested steak. Hubby thought I was nuts when I accompanied him to the grill to make 45º turns for perfect hash marks, and he also was certain he didn’t want any butter and herbs on his beef. I convinced him that had enjoyed this before…it is a simple, yet elegant dish…and I was right. It was extremely well received…even the “green stuff.” I hope you’ll try it for your next celebration.
And if you haven’t tried my Crispy Smashed Potatoes, they are a fabulous accompaniment to any meal~

Oh, I’m SO glad you enjoyed this, Adriana! Simple ingredients, but oh, so delicious…thanks for reporting back 🙂
I had to post again. We made the butter, scaled back for two steaks, and it was wonderful. Thanks for the recipe and the inspiration!
Lizzy, What a fabulous birthday meal. Love your comment about the “green stuff” 😉 Congratulations on Top9! No wonder: this looks so mouth-watering.
Gwenevere, I get our filets at Kincaids on the north side…and they’re pretty darn tender. That said, I still prefer a serrated steak knife 🙂
Thanks for all your sweet comments and buzz to the Top 9!!! You are the best!
Did you really eat these steaks with a table knife or is that just how you styled it? I’ve had steak that tender before but it’s a rare treat.
A terrific birthday meal for sure! Excellent flavors with garlic butter and herbs.
Happy Birthday, Nick! I love the additin of herbed butter to steaks – these look delicious!
This looks fantastic! I haven’t had dinner yet…sure wish I was fixing this!

I’m not a steak eater but my husband and daughter are and would drool over your steak dinner. Love those potatoes they appear quite often in my home….. thanks for sharing your recipe. :-)))
Lizzy…..where’s Lambeau?
Grilled steak is the best! We only have it in the summer so it won’t be long before it’s time here. Can’t wait to try your garlic butter 🙂
I haven’t eaten steak in decades, but that’s one beautiful steak!

Happy birthday to Nick! What a wonderful meal to celebrate with!
Ah… I have to leave my comment quickly before hubby gets a look at that steak (wink-wink). If he had his way, I’d serve him a huge porterhouse every night of the week.
Have a great day!
Lizzy – now you KNOW these would go over very well in my house!! I think these would be perfect with your smashed potatoes. Love the Cognac in there too – that really takes it up the “classy” scale..lol.
Wonderful job on the steak and I have to go and check out your smashed potatoes. They look like a side dish that I would just love.
Thanks, everyone!! It was a yummy dinner. For those of you asking about the potatoes, I’ve added a link…they are definitely worth trying 🙂

Mmmh… I must talk to my Mom about the 15th annual celebration of my 18th birthday. Happy BIRTH day to Nick’s Mom too! 😉 Those steaks look wonderful, but my eyes wandered to the potatoes on the top part of the first picture.
Yum! I want one of these for dinner!
Drooling. This is my kind of birthday dinner too. Yummy!
A classic, perfect recipe. Nothing like beef tenderloin!!!
Seriously delicious. My daughter always requests for roast lamb for her birthday EVERY year. I think I’ll have this on my birthday. Yes please to butter, herbs and garlic.
This looks wonderful! Your meat is perfectly cooked, and the herb butter sounds delicious! Thanks!
Oh my goodness what an incredible birthday meal! When I opened your blog and saw that picture I just gasped. It looks wonderful. My son used to ask for spaghetti and meatballs all the time. Now he loves steak. I can see him wanting this for his birthday in December. I want to know how you made those potatoes too. Have a great day, Lizzy!
A wonderful celebration meal! I have to teach Mr. Rosemary (and myself!)to be patient enough to make those perfect cross-hatch grill marks!
What a perfectly cooked tenderloin! I love a good steak once in a while and butter does make it better.-the constant hunger
