Spaghetti Pie with Sour Cream
Spaghetti Pie with Sour Cream is a family-friendly pasta dish. Easy to make, this is delicious comfort food with an Italian flare!
This Spaghetti Casserole is bound to be a hit with your family! With only pasta, gooey cheese, spaghetti sauce, sour cream, and ground beef, kids love it!
Easy Baked Spaghetti Pie with Sour Cream
I’d never heard of spaghetti pie till I moved to Indiana. This seemed to be a popular dish among families here and is typically made with a crust of spaghetti, a layer of cottage cheese followed by ground beef, spaghetti sauce, and cheese. I clipped this recipe from the paper years ago; this version appealed to me because it was a spaghetti pie with sour cream instead of cottage cheese.
This Italian inspired pie is one of those dishes I whip up when I have some of leftover spaghetti sauce or marinara in the freezer. My favorite part of this Spaghetti Casserole is the very edge of the crust, slightly eggy, with a few crispy noodles.
Recipe Tips
This Easy Spaghetti Pie is family-friendly and got my family’s seal of approval. It can be tweaked in numerous ways to make it your own.
- I love this version with sour cream instead of cottage cheese, but you can go back and use cottage cheese, ricotta, or even cream cheese instead.
- Use Italian sausage instead of ground beef or throw in some sauteed mushrooms (that would be taboo at my house!).
- I simply season the ground beef with salt. Adding Italian spices would jazz this up even more.
- You can also add some minced onion and garlic while sauteing the beef for additional flavor. I like keeping it simple for an easy weeknight meal.
- If you want to make this spaghetti pie ahead of time, it freezes well.
- Just wrap the unbaked “pie” with foil and/or plastic wrap and freeze. When you’re ready to serve, bake at 325º for 1 1/2 hours or till cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
How to Make Spaghetti Pie
- Make a crust composed of cooked spaghetti noodles, 2 beaten eggs, and some Parmesan cheese.
- Next, arrange the pasta mixture in a greased pie dish.
- Then, layer sour cream, cooked ground beef, spaghetti sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for about 25 minutes and dinner is served!
What’s not to love about this spaghetti pie? This is definitely a family-friendly recipe. It would be easy to double or triple and bake in a 9 x 13 pan for a crowd. My Italian Poutine Pie is a similar recipe with a hash brown instead of pasta crust. Plus, this Skillet Taco Pie is comfort food from my childhood.

This is a tried and true old-time favourite, Thanks for posting.
I HAVE to make this – the girls would adore it – thanks!

I saw a similar recipe of this pie in one of the Chinese cookbook that I borrowed but that pie looks very thin 😛 😀 This is another great way to cook spaghetti 😉
I have a similar recipe in a couple of old recipe books. I don’t know why I haven’t tried it yet, as yours looks delicious. When my kids were young they didn’t like anything that resembled a casserole.
Wow… what a cool way to eat spaghetti. You know I love me some spaghetti. I am definitely putting this on my must try list. I think my kids will love it. 🙂 Have a great Tuesday!!
you have a similar thing in my Facebook album with macaroni and tomato sauce baked together in the oven. Extremely yummy and quick and simple.
I often just mix pasta with sour cream and eggs and grated cheese and put in the oven for 20 minutes. I’m a simple raccoon 🙂
But my favourite pasta is with potatoes, very typical for my Vojvodina, I must explain it to you once…
Its also new to me Lizzy but your pics says it all that it was worth the try and looks superb. I will surely enjoy it too.
Spaghetti is one of my all time faves from childhood. This would be a great change to serve even for guests. Thanks for posting this one!
This looks fantastic. I wasn’t too thrilled as I was reading ‘cottage cheese,’ but you got me back when you said this recipe used sour cream. I’m sold.
I remember eating a similar dish a potluck a long time ago, but I never made it. It’s a good way to use leftover pasta and sauce.:) Thanks for sharing!
I love this idea. When I have left over spaghetti I save it and then add veggies to it and bake it like I pie. Those cripy bit of pasta are the best.
Liz, it sounds too good to be true! I’m sure this is the kind of dish that pleases even the pickiest people. I must remember to try it soon.
oh my the memories this just brought back, although my family never made this or I. My best friends mom did in high school. I use to look forward to going there for dinner as this was one heck of a tasty dish. Bet the kids and hubby would enjoy this one too… thanks for giving me that flash back.. boy do I miss those years!
This looks really good. I even have a little bit of spaghetti sauce in the freezer!
yummy, I think my mom used to make something similar 🙂 delicious!
Yum..how perfectly sliced yours is! I’ve made the Jessica Seinfeld version, with broccoli. But yours is a heartier version that my little family would enjoy.
I saw on Twitter that you asked about the no-movement on foodbuzz, I’ve noticed it too. Nothing since January 27. ?!
Good day to you 🙂
This sounds good. I never heard of it until now
I’ve heard of these, but never tried. I would love to – looks great!
this looks gooooooood! Great post 🙂
This is actually very appealing to me and I am going to try it!
