S’mores Brownies in Jars
This s’mores inspired dessert, S’mores Brownies in Jars, was a snap to prepare. A layer of graham cracker crust was topped with some fudgy brownie dough and baked in cute little mason jars.
Marshmallows filled the rest of the jars and were broiled to give that characteristic roasted s’mores look. You can also make these using a boxed brownie mix, which will most likely fill more than 4 jars.
S’mores Desserts
We spent many summer vacations with my in-laws up in Wisconsin. Boating, fishing, Packer worshiping were all part of our adventures up north. Come sundown, we’d get a roaring campfire going and spend the last minutes of twilight searching for the perfect marshmallow roasting sticks.
Making s’mores by squeezing a charred and gooey marshmallow and a piece of milk chocolate between two graham crackers was part of our nightly routine. But even better than traditional campfire s’mores are s’mores desserts like these layered brownies.
Is It Safe to Bake in Mason Jars?
Mason jars are made for canning, so they can tolerate temperatures. Buy a good quality canning jar to ensure they stand up to baking.
How to Store Mason Jar Desserts
Thankfully, these desserts in jars are self-sealing, so it’s easy to store the leftovers. Just screw on the caps and store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or the freezer for up to 3 months. Bring to room temperature then gently warm if desired to soften the marshmallows.
What is Jarcuterie?
A new fad with the global pandemic in full swing is to serve appetizers in jars, like cheese sticks, crackers, and cured meat. It’s much safer than hovering around a cheeseboard with many hands reaching in to grab a nibble. Other ideas include veggie sticks and dip, cheese puffs, or anything on skewers! Jarcuterie is a term that comes from blending charcuterie, AKA a cheeseboard, with jars.

I can tell by everything you’ve written that your father-in-law was an awesome man.
Your father-in-law sounds like a wonderul man. I raise my cookie bars up in a toast to him. This dessert is the perfect dish to honor his memory.
What a sad fathers day.
I really like your idea for s’mores in a jar, it looks so delicious. I noticed it on google+ and had to visit for more information 🙂
YUM!
It doesn’t surprise me that Kim lent you her shoulder when you needed it because she has a kind heart. It looks like you two also share a love of serving desserts in jars.
Such a lovely way to remember your Father-in-Law and thanks for sharing Liz. These brownies in a jar are adorable! I love individual serving desserts. They’re so much fun to eat!
Such an important cause! I would make a big batch of frosting first thing, straight away, and eat it all with a spoon.
I would love to make my grandma’s pound cake.
So sorry to hear about your FIL. It seems that we have all been touched one way or another with this horrible disease.
Lovely post there Liz. The brownies in jar look not just irresistible but so very cute!
What a splendid idea, Liz. These brownies look irresistible!
This was such a lovely post, Liz. Heartfelt, touching, and yet still made me hungry!
Thanks for sharing a lovely post about your FIL.
He must have loved you very much.
Your s’mores brownies in a jar make me smile. I’d love to try this.
What a special post Liz. I almost felt like I was with you at your campfires. Hailing from Wisconsin, I could picture it so clearly, we did the same type of thing. I know this was a hard day for your family, my heart goes out to all of you. Praying for “the peace that passes understanding”. Chris
First, I would give the mixer to my Mother as I already have a beloved mixer. I would keep the ice cream attachment for myself though 🙂 I would have to make mint chocolate chip ice cream. PS – I am doing smores in a jar next week during SundaySupper! I am so excited that yours turned out so great.
Dear Liz, I know it is difficult to say goodbye to those we love. This was a lovely tribute to your father in law. On a side note your brownies smores in a jar look delicious and perfect for rainy day campfire gatherings that had to move inside due to the weather. Take care, BAM
Love the presentation of these in jars. That’s a great idea and lovely of you to bring attention to some wonderful charities that are fully deserving of support. I’d love to be a resident so I could enter this competition! xx
Love these brownies, so fun in the jar!
Great idea!
Your s’more desserts are cutie-patooties on parade. But your words about driving back to Wisconsin without the privilege of enjoying the Packers worshipping and the smoldering fire chats touches my heart with grief. Life is such a dichotomy, isn’t it?
On the one hand, we’ve got lovely little desserts and pleasures of life. And on the other, we’ve all got our losses…
Focus on the present – the gifts is the right thing to do…Yet, it certainly is challenging when we’ve got these losses tugging at our hearts…I guess it’s that famous quote which I’ll respect. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
Liz:
What a great treat for such a special day.
I know that you have lost your father-in-law recently. May God comfort your family and you on this day. I know how you guys feel since it is a day with mixed emotions for me too.
I am sad because my dear Dad is not here anymore to celebrate the day, but at the same time I am happy for my girls who can enjoy their father on his day.
Hang in there!!! xx
