I pull out all the stops when I host my book club, and when I spotted mini Brie cheeses in the market, I decided to make these Cherry Topped Brie Bites.

The packaged bite-sized Brie was new to me and to a few of my book club friends as well. Ile de France was the brand I used, but one of my girlfriends mentioned that she buys the Trader Joe’s version. They don’t take long to warm up in the oven and I can imagine you could do the same job by gently zapping them in the microwave. The cherry compote topping is a cinch to prepare, and you could definitely use other preserves and dried fruit to shake things up. These mini baked brie appetizers disappeared in a flash!

20 Years of Book Club Fun

We started our book club in the fall of 1996. We currently have 13 members and have been through marriages of children, births of grandchildren, deaths of parents, divorce, cancer and everything in between. I’m pretty sure I’ve hosted all 20 years, so can you imagine all the food I’ve made for these special friends? This year these mini baked bries were a favorite!

I tend to go overboard, of course. Since I was co-hosting a bridal shower 3 days later, I tried to select a few simpler recipes and these Cherry Topped Brie Bites hit the mark. I always love to include a link to all the books our book club has read for you avid readers. I hope I’ve inspired you with a new recipe idea or a new book to add to your reading list!

  1. These are simply stunning! Brie is one of my favorites.

  2. I have never seen mini brie, which is probably a good thing, because I’d eat so much more. These look amazing!

  3. I envy you and my sister Kelly to be able to be in such fun book clubs. I’ve never been in one due to my job and the times that the local clubs meet. I’ve even thought of starting my own, but then again is this crazy issue of time and choices. It’s a bummer, but maybe when I retire someday. NOW, to these lovely little brie bites! WOW! First, I’ve never seen mini brie, so what an awesome idea for foodies! And cherry compote? I don’t know if you knew that cherries are so much my favorite fruit that my mother always made a special cherry pie for me for every holiday . . . soon to be the family favorite. So whenever I read cherries or cheese, I’m salivating!!! Wonderful recipe that I’m sure your book club went nuts over!

  4. I am always reading a book, so I will check out your list now. I love cherries on just about anything, but I’ve never had brie. Sounds like time to give it a try.

  5. Your brie bites look yummy! And I had to check out your book list. I’m reading Fates and Furies right now for our April meeting – since it doesn’t have a grade, I’m assuming it’s your next meeting too. It was all I could do not to read your whole list and compare it with ours!
