Buttermilk Crumb Muffins…Baking with Julia


Today’s Tuesdays with Dorie is hosted by Alisa of Easier Than Pie…and our assignment was a simple buttermilk muffin with a dusting of crumbs atop. I was a little wary of using all shortening instead of butter in these muffins, but the cinnamon and nutmeg scents tempting me from the oven convinced me these might just be OK. Moist and tender, the crumb was just perfect. The tops were a bit flat, but I got reassurance looking at the cookbook photo…these are not exactly picturesque baked goods. But the taste certainly made up for the Miss Congeniality award versus the Pageant winner…and like mentioned in the recipe, these are best eaten on the day they’re baked.
