Inspired by the French after school snack, pain au chocolat, Dorie’s twist is to use Nutella and add a bitter orange marmalade to the buttered and broiled toast. I only made one slice from this 4 serving recipe…as I have the kids who like their peanut butter sandwiches sans jelly…and I won’t even mention what they think about nuts! These are the same children who were unimpressed with Nutella when it was served with their breakfast buffet in Florence…and they have half my DNA???
Even though I could have eaten the whole jar of Nutella with a spoon, this didn’t wow me. I now know I prefer my Nutella without marmalade and my marmalade without Nutella.
