This week’s French Friday’s with Dorie selection featured a combination of flavors I’ve never eaten before…Gorgonzola with apples. Not certain if the family would go for it, I planned to take it to my knitting group this morning. Hubby actually loves blue cheese in salads, so I had hopes that he wouldn’t poo-poo this dish…I figured as long as I didn’t call it quiche, it had a chance. He is, unfortunately, a product of that 70′s group of real men that don’t eat quiche. Gorgonzola tart….maybe, but quiche no. Yeah, I haven’t figured him out either…
A buttery prebaked shell was filled with sauteed onions, diced apples and Gorgonzola. A mixture of cream and eggs was poured on top before baking. This smelled marvelous as it cooked away in the oven…and the results yummy, but I tasted onions over the apple and blue cheese. I’d consider upping the Gorgonzola for more flavor next time.
This recipe can be found in Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table….a cookbook worth your investment!

Yeah I loved this but I was expecting to. Cheese and apples is one of my favourite combinations ever and this did not disappoint. Happy Friday Liz!
I love any cheese and this yumminesss makes my mouth water ;D It looks gorgeous , too ! Throw a slice or two over here , pretty please
That is one gorgeous quiche! GORGEOUS!
Lizzy.. you made me laugh.. he’ll eat a tart not a quiche! LOL! Men are so funny. This does look amazing… you make everything looks so pretty and scrumptious. I love that you’re apart of a knitting group. How cool are you! I’m such a bore in comparison.. I belong to the clean plate club… that’s all.
I think I could eat half that quiche without batting any eye. What a perfectly wonderful combination. It’s funny how some men, my husband included, think quiche is “women’s food.”
Another one I can only dream of eating, I always wonder what the taste of onions are or the draw to put them in so many foods and normally the food taste fine to me without them but people that know what they taste like say this is bland. I hate having food allergies when things look this grea to want to try! This is a work of art that dark crust is wonderful!
I’m supposed to be getting Dudette ready for school, but I HAD to come here first to see if you put up the picture. Now I just have to try and look past that amazing tart to what’s below. Too bad the onions were predominant. Thanks for the tip.
I do love that door. The color is beautiful and the panels lovely. Thanks for showing me more of it.
Very interesting tart creation here. I have tried apples and cheese together, but not in this manner. It does look delicious and the gorgonzola is a great choice. I would say this is one of the better recipes out of that book. Your pictures are stunning as usual Liz.
Well done.
Okay, okay, I’ll get the cookbook! This looks absolutely gorgeous. Such a great combination of flavors. And, yes, Lizzy, your photographs are wonderful.
I have one of those at home too – I have to be VERY careful what I call things if I want them to be eaten. Go figure.
Your quiche/ tart looks great & love your cabinet door
yumminess!
Damsn this recipes puts a spell on me!! just mouthwatering!!
you know, I’ve been meaning to ask you if your table was actually some doors
You eat on it, or just use it for taking pics?
Love the look of the quiche!
This is one beautiful looking quiche! I love the idea of apples and cheese in the egg and pastry. I’ll have to try this one out!
Oh yeah! More cheesey stuff! Yum! Cheese and fruits go so well together. This is great! I also love blue cheese.
Just call a quiche something else other than a quiche ad the guys will eat it. The name is just too prissy for them but they’ll drive a thing called a “Porsche”. Ok, I’m rambling … never mind.
What a pretty apple-slice pinwheel! Great post, Lizzy!
Never on earth I have tried quiche with apples but sure that looks a worth the try. Your group is going to drool over this dish and all the more give high praises.
This was a big thumbs-up, too, even among the peeps who claim not to like quiche (which I’ve never figured out – if you like scrambled eggs, how can you not like quiche?
)
Lizzy I love apple tart an dthis look georgeous!
We loved this one but I did a few tweeks. I swapped out the onion for a milder shallot, used a local blue cheese and added a handful of walnuts. My quiche was rich, probably better served in small slices as an appetizer. I love the shape of your quiche as well as the design you made with the apple slices.
How cool you’re in a knitting group!
Oh, this is just gorgeous!!!
Never have apple and gorgonzola,,,looks amazing and delicious as always
I passing the awards for you as my appreciation, please check it out.

Your quiche looks beautiful. I love what you did with the apples:)
Wow, that flavor combo sounds amazing! And Im glad it doesn’t call for pears, I really love apples so much more. I have to try this.
Beautiful! I love to see variations and creativity!
Oh wow, what a wonderful combination for a quiche!
OH! SO pretty!!
This quiche looks fantastic. I love that it’s square and that you got all fancy-schmancy with the apple slices. Have a fantastic weekend!
apples + cheese = heaven. I want a little slice of this pronto!
As always, your presentation and photography is just gorgeous. I don’t know how you do it.
We loved this quiche and luckily for me the german men have not yet heard that they are not supposed to like quiche because I had no complaints in my household. I thought that the amount of cheese was good, but I did mine in an 8 inch round tart pan which made everything a little snugger.
beautifully done and love your apple slices garnish…I need to remember to do this next time, and next time will be soon…loved this quiche.
You should see the look on my Hubby’s face when I mention quiche! lol This “tart” looks beautiful! With recipes like this, I have to add this book to my list. Have a great weekend, Lizzy! Hugs!
Didn’t you know? Real Men don’t eat Quiche! At least there must be a school that teaches them that.
What a different flavor combination, looks wonderful!
What an amazing quiche! I love the flavours.
Haven’t tried that combo, but your quiche sure looks delicious!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Lizzy!
This is an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G dish!!Love the burst of flavors in the Quiche – butter, sauteed onions, cream, eggs and apples! How I wish I was there when you were baking this quiche – just the aroma would have made my day:)Lovely dish dear and so are the clicks (loved your wooden door table!)
love the way u have arranged those apple slices… must have taken a lot of effort. so pretty!
I just saw this on another blog. Looks absolutely delicious!
Just gorgeous!! I love cheese and fruit together, so I’m sure I will love this. So funny that your husband won’t eat quiche! His loss
Beautiful presentation. Unique and interesting this, alas I wait for Sat’s indulgence:) Have a nice weekend
What a gorgeous quiche! I love these flavors and such a wonderful combination
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
That is delicious quiche, I know some time men won’t eat this but that. I had friend who’s husband doesn’t like eggplant. she will fool him buy removing the skin and seeds then it will appear like something else.
Apple quiche sounds very yummy and delicious. Nice combo, it’s a real mouth watering delight. Wonderful clicks too.
A very interesting combination! In France people sometimes have pears with blue cheese, so why not apples? I have never tasted both together, but it sounds like a wonderful idea and your presentation is beautiful!
)
I think many French people would call it tarte and not quiche (it’s a long discussion between those who think the only quiche is quiche lorraine and those who think every thicker tart with cream and egg mixture is a quiche
It’s funny how much the name of a dish matters, isn’t it? This looks stunning…and delicious. Blue cheese and apples is such a great combination.
I enjoyed reading this post! The quiche sounds lovely and looks so gorgeous for quiche. Your hubby sounds like mine. Haha.
This is absolutely gorgeous, Lizzy! And I want a piece of it right NOW. No one else here likes Gorgonzola but that would simply mean more for me hehe
That sounds awesome!!! Looks beautiful too

You always make everything look so classy and elegant! I need a HUGE slice of this tasty tart!
This quiche sounds fantastic. I love the apple gorgonzola combination. It looks really pretty to.
I’ve had some excellent pear, apple, and Gorgonzola salads so I bet this quiche is pretty tasty. It certainly is beautiful and I love the square quiche pan.
Apples and gorgonzola… pears and gorgonzola… grapes and gorgonzola – they all call to me. It’s just beautiful, Lizzy and in my home – we call them tarts, also. We ignore the “q” word.
Now see my husband will eat quiche so long as you don’t put any vegetables in it because he’s of the opinion the real men don’t eat vegetables!!
How could your husband resist this! It is beautifully made and I’m sure (despite the strong taste of the onions) it was scrumptious.
Lizy, gorgonzola is the most great and divine cheese!!
I love it.
With apple it’s so delicious…taste it with nuts too!
Beautiful! I think I need to buy a square tart pan. I love how they look. Glad this was a hit. I loved it.
We loved it! Your ‘tart’ is beautiful. The apples on top are a great idea!
Awesome combination. I love gorgonzola!
I love pears and gorgonzola cheese together but your beautiful tart is what caught my attention. I have this one booked marked. Yum! Take Care, BAM
Beautiful flavors… gorgeous coloring on that tart… and I must mention I really love that square tart tin… Really cute! Thanks for sharing, Lizzy!
Sooooooooooo Beautiful & Lush.
I’d love to make this for a dinner party one day.
Xxx WOW.
Great combination! And the presentation is very unusual. Love it! Thanks for visiting my blog! I am your new follower.
Beautiful quiche and presentation – love the door table!
Your tart looks so pretty, great job!
You had me at the title, Liz! I love the combination of blue cheese and apples. We actually prefer Roquefort with either apples or pears but any blue will do. Oh, and I would definitely go with “tart”
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Lizzy, thks for dropping by from Shirley’s Luxury Haven & leaving me your lovely comments!
What a lovely blog you’ve got here! I’m following u now & would love to have u follow me too. Looking fwd to sharing! Have a wonderful weekend!
This quiche looks wonderful! Your pictures are perfect, as always.
I’ve been looking at everyone’s quiches and I love that yours is a tart! I just love savory baking and the pairing of gorgonzola and apples here is just heavenly to me. Your quiche looks phenomenal, Liz! : )
Onions in the crust? That seems a touch unorthodox if you ask me.
But I’m not the baker here, you are.
LOVE the pinwheel design, Lizzy! I want to join your knitting group…
Yours is one of the prettiest versions I’ve seen this week, Liz. The square shape really appeals to me, and I like the apple slices arranged on the top. More gorgonzola can only improve upon a delicious tart.
I just scrawled across the calendar “get a square pan like Liz’s asap”. This is gorgeous. You are a rock star Liz. Not one bad recipe to date. How do you do it? I want the secret. Spill it.
Gorgeous, Liz! I love quiche, but I’ve never had it with apple!
That is the bomb! I love gorgonzola and apples!
Aww, you mad your quiche look so pretty. I enjoyed this.
What a great looking tart, too bad that the flavours didn’t come through. It’s better safe than sorry with something as strongly flavoured as blue cheese.
Terrific looking tart! Love the square shape and the beautiful apple arrangement on top. Men, go figure…..I used cabrales cheese, which worked beatufifully – nice flavor profile but not overwhelming.
Your quiche looks fantastic! Gorgonzola and apples is a fantastic combination in salad, I can only imagine it would be just as good baked in a quiche. I will definitely try this recipe. Thank you for sharing!
it looks delicious! i have never tried gargonzola before, but i’m sure the flavor combo is absolutely yummy-licious!

Apple and gorgonzola is a lovely combination! the quiche looks fantastic!
I love cheese and apples, and your old door/table!
Just stunning shape and design on top. I have mixed apples and blue cheese in salads but never thought about it as a quiche. I’ll have what your hubby won’t eat:-)
This looks so heavenly. Thank you for sharing…and thank you for all the support. It means more to me than you know. Hugs and love from Austin.
I’ve tried apple & Gorgonzola but not with quiche. It looks so pretty and I know I’d love this very much!
