9 out of 10 times, if I ask Bill what he wants for dessert, he’ll say chocolate chip cookies…plain old Nestles Tollhouse cookies. He’s also become a huge fan of Jacques Torres’ version…which are both huge and delicious…and the reason I ordered a case of Guittard’s Semisweet Chocolate Wafers…I had to recreate them perfectly. This recipe from Barefoot Contessa Parties is right up there with both his favorites. In fact, when I asked for a comparison, he commented, “Since I’ve eaten thousands of tollhouse cookies, I’m going to have to sample at least a dozen before giving an accurate opinion.” Then he proceeded to eat a second, mumbling, “These are terrific.”
4 cups semisweet chocolate chunks (I used Guittard chocolate wafers)
Preheat oven to 350º. Line baking sheets with parchment and set aside.
Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar till well combined. Add eggs, then vanilla and mix well. Add flour, baking soda and salt and mix till combined. Stir in chocolate chunks.
Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto cookie sheet, about 6 per sheet. Flatten slightly with moist hand. Bake 12-15 minutes, till just golden. Be careful not to over bake. Cool slightly on pan before moving to cooling rack.
Makes about 36.

Irresistible.
Chocolate chunks are always better than chocolate chips. These look divine!
These look like the ultimate chocolate chunk cookies! I love big chunks of chocolate in cookies, especially because you can usually get better quality chocolate in a chunk as opposed to a chip. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday Liz
!
Smart man. Those are some good looking cookies!
I do watch her cooking program from time to time Lizzy and yes, some great recipes she comes up with.
Similarly, these cookies with chocs looks so crispy and full of that chocolaty taste. Pass over one for me to taste please.
Such a classic and always a hit!! Your cookies look delicious! Love those big chunks of chocolate! I watch Ina and own most of her books.
Your picture does tell me that these are crispy buttery and chock full of chocolate. Those three components are the makings of a winner of a cookie in my book. Delicious!

Hubby’s a fan of the Tollhouse ones as well. isn’t that odd that they keep going back to that recipe? If these match up, I’ll just have to give them a try for him. As soon as he’s able to keep things down, that is.
Those sound so good with chocolate chunks!
Wow your cookies look really perfect
They sounds so good with some milk
Wow – these look buttery and crispy and packed with chocolate! Would go great with a glass of milk. YUM!
Chocolate chip is my kids’ favorite too. It’s nice that there are so many versions to try to satisfy the foodie in me…otherwise it would get way too boring making the same old recipe
Chocolate Chip cookies are my favorite kind of cookie. They just say comfort!! I love them.. and these look amazing!! Okay Lizzy, you’ve made me want to challenge myself. I must make some from scratch one of these days. I hope mine don’t turn into my traditional hockey pucks.
PS.. I love Ina too. I own her Back to the basic cookbook.

Chocolate chunk cookies are my absolute favourite things ever. Thank you for this!
I just love that Ina’s not afraid of butter. I mean if you’re going to have a cookie – have a cookie! These are grand, Lizzy – now how can I do this and be skinny?
The cookies look delicious and really big! I should stop looking at them, otherwise I risk baking a huge batch tonight

They look so awesome but surprisingly thin for chocolate chunks lol
Ohhh nice cookie shot! I prefer bigger chocolate chunks in cookies or anywhere. This looks much better than ordinary chocolate chip cookies…
Nothing beats a good chocolate ship cookie! I love the Jacques Torres version, too, but never have the foresight to make the dough in advance. These sound great!
Ina Garten’s recipe never fails and these cookies looks perfect. Nothing can beat a good chocolate chip cookies right
I never trust a “white sugar” cookie recipe, brown sugar is where it’s at! Beautiful cookies.
Dear Lizzy,
Thank you so much for leaving me a sweet comment!I really feel rewarded having baked that cake:)Its lovely to know that you made the lentil soup – it would be an absolute privilege to have it on my event, that’s for sure! But more than that,I wanted to spread the word as to how good lentils are through my event, and if you are cooking lentils and having them,my mission is accomplished already:)Thanks for letting me know dear – made me so happy.
I’m sure they got good reviews! They are amazingly even and pretty–my chocolate chunk cookies are all over the place in terms of size!
Mmmm… Those look good. Bill has good taste in desert.
Look delicious dear Lizzy!!!
My hubby is a huge chocolate chip cookie fan although I don’t really love them all the time. It’s rare that I make them these sound pretty great with the chunks. Maybe I’ll surprise him.
Looks like a perfect comfort kind fo cookie
These must be massive chunks, yum!
I love Barefoot Contessa! These cookies look outstanding. It also sounds like we have similar husbands. Mine could eat chocolate chip cookies (with a side of vanilla ice cream) every day for breakfast lunch and dinner!
I’m currently looking around to buy a couple of Barefoot Contessa books too. I thought of buying the one, Barefoot Contessa at home and now reading your post, I’m considering buying this entertaining one too.
Oh my these cookies look perfect! Love your recipe and your photos
Dear Lizzy, What a great comfort food, Chocolate Chunk Cookies!! I’m brewing a cup of tea and one or two of these would go perfectly. Blessings my friend, Catherine xo
Ooo, I was already making a version of chocolate chip cookies or I swear, I’d be making these. I LOVE the big pieces of chocolate in these and you can rarely go wrong with one of Ina’s recipes.
I’m a big fan of Ina’s books as well. I’ve never been disappointed by any of her recipes!
Well, that does it. I’m going to have to make these and get all up in them. That’s all there is to it.
How you got such a thin, delicate, yet chunky cookie is beyond me! YUM!

Love this! I’m a big fan of Ina’s, and I hear a lot of requests for chocolate chip cookies in my house. These look great. I need to bake some!
Nothing quite as good as a chocolate chip cookie…no matter what the recipe.
Still I’m sure Barefoot’s are delish.
Not much else beats a really great homemade chocolate chip cookie. I don’t blame Bill. My kids ask for them too more than other desserts;)
Those huge chunks of chocolate are just irresistible! Chocolate chip cookies are my favorites.
These look delicious and huge! Love big cookies!
Very nice recipe. Those cookies look amazing!
Fantastic! I’m a huge INA fan. Liz, I think this is my favorite post you’ve ever written. Not because of the cookies – which are delectable and nothing short of stunning…but I love the way this one was written! Bravo and thanks for a GREAT read!
There’s something about the way Ina cooks that is very comforting, isn’t there? Your cookies look delicious! My husband would have 6 of them eaten while they were still warm.

I do love Cookies! These look great, I am such a cookie monster sometimes. I wouldn’t be able to stop myself with those!
I love that they are big and thin…perfect for dunking into some almond milk.
My all time favorite cookies are chocolate chips…better yet, chocolate chunks, large, thin, and crispy! Yumm! I would certainly make allowance for 1 cookie even on my WW diet:DDD
Haha! I love your husbands count thats needed for comparison! These look amazing!! I love a nice big cookie w/ chunks of delicious chocolate. Ina has some pretty amazing recipes, I’m going to have to try this out!
Really lovely. I love how thin these are and you can see the chocolate chips. ugh. I want one. I also use BC as a go to cook book. Most of my side dishes during the holidays were straight out of her most recent book, and they were everyone’s favorite. Gotta love the lady.
Oh Wow Liz, those chunks are driving me crazy. I want some now!!!
Yum these look fabulous! I love variations of chocolate chip cookies, and Ina Garten is amazing
Thanks for sharing!
nothing as comforting as a plain old chocolate chip cookie! These look so wonderful Liz!
What is it with husband’s their opinionated affinity for chocolate chip cookies???
When you return home from your trip it was NOT me who ate all the cookies while you were. And you cannot prove it. *wipes a crumb off before anyone sees*
I love the big chunks of chocolate in these cookies and they look so melt-in-your-mouth delicious! I’m with Bill, I never tire of anything chocolate! Thanks!
That’s endorsement enough for me! Everything I’ve made of Ina’s has been wonderful, so I am looking forward to trying this recipe.
Chocolate chunk cookies sounds so much more generous and delicious than plain ol’ chocolate chip
Thanks for sharing this! I won’t try to resist making these…
Oh I hate when a good secret gets out. lol.
I am also still trying to work my way through a lot of my favorite cook books and I totally get it when you say he only asks for Chocolate Chip cookies. My BF would be content with ice cream… every night… from the frozen food section. lol. These little bad boys do look like an awesome way to mix it up.
