Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting
“Every face tells a story….” My friend, Traci, is a remarkable woman. Three years ago, upon hearing of a friend diagnosed with breast cancer, she unselfishly decided to donate her healthy breast tissue to the newly founded Susan G. Komen Cure Tissue Bank. Mother of three daughters, Traci wanted to help women afflicted with breast cancer. Little did she know, while preparing for her first triathalon last spring, that she’d be diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. She remembered her earlier donation and asked if she could donate her cancerous tissue. Traci was the first person to give both healthy and diseased tissue…and may possibly provide the key to unlocking the mystery of this devastating cancer. Generous and giving, even while fighting for her life, in classic Traci style, she was thinking of others… And I thought of her as I made these Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting.
So for today’s Frosting for the Cause, I’m dedicating these cupcakes to Traci and another friend, Kortnee, who was recently diagnosed.
These were a hit with the family. Like my pie crust, my frosting technique needs a little polishing; but if you squint, these look pretty good! I used a star tip to pipe this icing. I was told 12 was not enough, so next time I’ll be doubling the recipe…

These are beautiful and you are supporting such a great cause. Thanks for raising awareness. All my best to your friend.
These cupcakes look so fun and carefree! Yum! And, that’s a wonderful story about your friend Traci!
Thanks, everyone! I am blessed to have these two as friends…both brave women who won’t give up the fight…
Hi Lizzy! Thanks for stopping by my blog so that I could discover yours. I think your cupcakes are a great reminder for all of us to keep contributing to the cause. And really, the frosting looks pretty spectacular. I normally just smear on frosting and call it a day 🙂
Touching post and such beautiful cupcakes.
Oops, I don’t think I have the tip sizes listed after all.
Look for jumbo tips at Michael’s Crafts. Ateco 808 (round), or Ateco 828 (star). I also like Ateco 887 (swirly closed star).

How sweet. A dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with breast cancer as well. I didn’t know you could donate breast tissue. Thanks for sharing that.
As for your cupcakes, don’t be so hard on yourself – who turns down cupcakes??? 🙂
I think I know the look you were going after – check out some of my cupcake posts to see what size tips I recommend.
Have a great weekend,

Lizzy-What an amazing story, such an inspiration and courage from this amazing woman to donate her healthy breast tissue, while still fighting for her own battle with cancer. Now, there’s so much cure out there that women are helped with…my younger sister is in her fifth year of her breast cancer cure, and it has not spread since. So there’s hope!
Your cupcakes are so beautiful, and the pink buttercream frosting is gorgeous.
So generous of you to help fight for the cause!
xoxo
Your friend sounds like an amazing woman. And your cupcakes loom lovely – I love the color and the way you frosted them.
our prayers are with your friends as they go through this ordeal Lizzy. Your cupcakes are a good way to keep us remembering the cause!
we all need to don what we can to help find a cure for this terrible disease.

Your cupcakes are beautiful, Lizzy, as is the story of the woman who is fighting breast cancer.. What a gal! I hope you have a great weekend. Blessings…Mary
These are gorgeous and I don’t even think 24 would be enough in our house. We’re cupcake crazy!
What a truly amazing woman!! I’m praying a cure will come soon. SO many women affected by this disease!
These cupcakes are beautiful Lizzy. No need to squint – they are perfect. I like my cupcakes to look like a person made them, not a factory :o)
