“Every face tells a story….” My friend, Traci, is a remarkable woman. Three years ago, upon hearing of a friend diagnosed with breast cancer, she unselfishly decided to donate her healthy breast tissue to the newly founded Susan G. Komen Cure Tissue Bank. Mother of three daughters, Traci wanted to help women afflicted with breast cancer. Little did she know, while preparing for her first triathalon last spring, that she’d be diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. She remembered her earlier donation and asked if she could donate her cancerous tissue. Traci was the first person to give both healthy and diseased tissue…and may possibly provide the key to unlocking the mystery of this devastating cancer. Generous and giving, even while fighting for her life, in classic Traci style, she was thinking of others… And I thought of her as I made these Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting.

So for today’s Frosting for the Cause, I’m dedicating these cupcakes to Traci and another friend, Kortnee, who was recently diagnosed.

These were a hit with the family. Like my pie crust, my frosting technique needs a little polishing; but if you squint, these look pretty good! I used a star tip to pipe this icing. I was told 12 was not enough, so next time I’ll be doubling the recipe…
