A Give Away for My Blog’s First Birthday~

by Liz Berg on March 14, 2011

Update:  Congratulations to Lizzie of Food and Thrift Finds!  She is the lucky winner of the Artisano’s gift package (and a sweet friend as well).  Please check out her wonderful blog~

When I started blogging a year ago, it was just a means to share recipes with friends.  Little did I know that within months, I’d encounter and be inspired by all sorts of wonderful food bloggers and develop a camaraderie with so many extremely talented and generous cooks.  From professional chefs to home cooks, we all love to make delicious food and showcase it in the best possible fashion.  Thanks to all my blog followers, facebook fans and friends who just stop in to check out new recipes.  Your kind words have kept me going and striving to make my blog better.

So to review the year, I will pick a handful of my favorite posts…

#5 Fall Off the Bone Baby Back Ribs~
My oldest always groaned when I mentioned we were having ribs…the mess, the bones, the lots of work for not a lot of meat.  Well, these changed his mind.  The friends who have tried them have gone out of their way to praise these…be sure to put this on your summer menu.  Serve them with these crispy smashed potatoes.

#4 Cranberry Cognac Trifle~

This was one of my early bake alongs…I have such marvelous friends who join me in the kitchen.

#3 Challah~

One of the best breads I’ve baked…this got me started on a yeast kick.

#2 Apple Crostada~

My first Daring Bakers’ Challenge…after this success, I felt confident that I could keep up with this group of fabulous bakers…

#1 Puff Pastry~

I challenged myself once again, and, whew, this one worked, too.  Both the Apple Tarts and Prosciutto Gruyere Pinwheels made from this pastry were truly delectable.

Now for the best part…the give away!!!!

There is an incredible culinary shop less than a mile from my home. Artisano’s Oils and Spices is my favorite stop for hostess gifts…fabulous flavored olive oils and vinegars, hundreds of spices, over 20 infused salts (including my favorite black truffle salt), and flavored sugars are just some the specialty items they offer.  Owner, David Burcham, has generously donated these with the baker in mind:

A 200 ml bottle of walnut oil (fabulous for salads, drizzled over vegetables)
A 200 ml bottle of chocolate balsamic vinegar (imagine this over fresh strawberries!)
A 3 ounce tin of ginger sugar

You may enter to win this lovely prize package a few different ways:

  • Become a NEW follower of my blog (click on “Follow” in the right hand column), and make a comment letting me know.
  • If you are already a follower, you can enter by leaving a comment on this post.
  • If blogger isn’t allowing you to become a follower, just leave a post letting me know and you’ll be entered as well.

I will close this contest Sunday, March 20, at 5 PM. One winner (from the US only) will be chosen at random and posted on this blog entry by 8 AM Eastern time on Monday, March 21. At that time, I’ll provide an e-mail address for the winner to contact me with mailing information.

Indianapolis area followers, I hope you’ll stop in and patronize this gem of a shop~1101-B East 86th Street…right behind Nora Apothecary…entrance faces North Compton.

Lambeau, my constant baking companion (and crumb remover), wishes you the best of luck~
