Super Bowl M&M Cookies~

by Liz Berg on February 5, 2011

My youngest does not remember the last time the Green Bay Packers were in the Super Bowl…yes, it’s been that long…and he was just a wee one.  Cheesehead chicken was the classic choice for our entree this Super Bowl Sunday, but I hadn’t come up with an appropriate dessert till a facebook friend posted about NFL M&M’s.  I secretly ordered a few bags to surprise the family.  They were delighted with the cookies…and the full candy dish!  The only glitch was that these special M&M’s did not hold up in the oven…the Packer logos smeared even when I waited to add them during the last minutes of cooking.  I, apparently, was the only one who cared about this…they are disappearing quickly!

Super Bowl M&M Cookies…adapted from mms.com

1 cup butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/2-2 cups M&Ms

Preheat oven to 350º.  Line baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.

Cream butter and sugars till light and fluffy.  Beat in egg and vanilla.  Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt till thoroughly combined.  Add 1-1/2 cups of M&M’s and mix in.

Scoop out balls equal to about 2 tablespoons (I used a cookie disher).  Top with 3-5 M&M’s.  I found that the logo M&M’s do not hold up to heat…if you use those, you need to press your reserved candies into the cookies immediately after they’re removed from the oven.

Bake about 12 minutes.  Cool for a couple minutes on cookie sheet, and then remove to cooling rack.  Makes about 2 dozen large cookies.

Our Packer lights are traditionally lit for
each game~yes, we are that classy!
Lambeau is not sure what all the
hoopla is about~

These cookies have been added to Lisa’s Sweets for a Saturday blog post…check out all the fabulous goodies here.

Haha! Love the name of your dog! Nice looking cookies. We’re Bears fans here but since they’re unfortunately not in the Super Bowl (thanks to you Packers!) I will be cheering for the green and gold tomorrow too (much to my chagrin). Good luck!

Lizzy – we are cheering for the Packers too. My father and his side of the family are from Wisconsin so they are die hard fans. I usually root for the Bears since that’s my hubs team. BUT – we’re putting all differences aside and cheering on the Packers. I hadn’t seen these little M & M’s – they are so cute!! Love your lights too..hee hee!

These are really cute. Unfortunately, I didn’t find them, or you, in time for this year’s game. Everything is set in stone here in my kitchen and most of the cooking is done. I’m new here, so, I’ve just spent some time browsing through your earlier entries. I really, really like the food and recipes you feature here and I plan to be back often. I hope you enjoy the game and have a great weekend. Blessings…Mary

Great cookies, but I’ll have to make them with Steelers colors as I live in Chicago and have a vendetta against the Packers! Lol. Actually, I don’t care either way, but to say otherwise in Chicago would be sacrilege.

Thanks, everyone! Go, Pack, Go! But I certainly understand that some of you can’t root for them…there are certain arch rivals of the Packers that don’t get a lot of support here ;)

Enjoy your weekend~

Super cute! We don’t have anything like that for M&Ms here in Canada… they need to come out with some NHL ones! Enjoy the game… my hubby will be watching tomorrow too!

Lizzy these look so cute…..but not as cute and adorable as Lambeau :-) .

My SIL would kill for these cookies, she always wears a Green Bay Packers leather jacket. But she can’t now because she has a broken leg and can’t go outside…..this is such an awesome festive idea for the occasion…..I have to show these to her.

Have fun tomorow!!!!!

That’s funny, you’re the only one who cares about the smudged M & M’s! I would have been very upset myself. Good luck with the game tomorrow (but you, yourself don’t really care, do you?) I hope you’ll blog the chessehead chicken.

Will Lambeau wear her shirt tomorrow?

Reply

Lizzy February 6, 2011 at 3:25 am

Thanks, you all!

Carol due to severe superstitions of some members of the family, Lambeau won’t be wearing her jersey. Since she wasn’t donning it for any other games, it would certainly jinx the chance for a Green Bay win.

Leef, you know me well…I’ll share the recipe with you…it’s not very exciting! And would not photograph well at all!

Suzy, I should have sent you some!

Michelle, yes, they need to make some NHL ones, too!

Erica, I know you and Lambeau would be fast friends!

Zerrin, Linda and Claudia…thanks for stopping by :)

Your cookies look great!!!
Since my Cardinals are not playing, am cheering for the packers. Will be enjoying some cheesy Midwestern goodness during the game. I was intrigued by your reference to cheesehead chicken. It would be fun to try.
Have a great time!
