Gérard’s Mustard Tart…Week 2 of French Fridays with Dorie

I had to giggle when Bill came home from work, took one glance at this tart and asked whether it was for dessert. He’s not used to me baking such an attractive savory dish! He grew more dubious when I listed the ingredients…mustard, carrots, leeks. But he was a good sport and tried a sample. I found the taste delightful…the filling is not overwhelmed by the mustard, just enhanced. As my boys drown everything in ketchup, not mustard, I doubt they’ll be clamoring for this again.

As usual, I had difficulty with the crust, but it was simple to repair with some patching and pressing. Other than that, it comes together very easily…and makes a gorgeous presentation. I could see my foodie friends enjoying this with a green salad and a glass of wine for lunch or dinner.

What a elegant looking tart. I usually like to drown things in mustard, so I’m sure I’d enjoy this.

Your tart looks great! You know my dad thought it was dessert too and was surprised when he tasted the mustard!

The people in my household, who don’t love mustard like I do, still loved it. Yours is VERY beautiful!

Your tart sure does look pretty! I felt the same way. I thought the mustard was just the right amount and had the perfect balance.

What a beautiful spoked tart! Isn’t Dorie’s crust great? I have problems as well – but you can always patch and repair, just as you did. It’s so forgiving – looks lovely!
